The state Cannabis Control Board on Monday adopted emergency rules to keep the state’s medical cannabis program running.
The rules were necessary because Vermont’s medical cannabis statutes were repealed March 1 under state law, meaning there were no regulations to govern the program, according to in-depth reporting from the Battleboro Reformer.
The board unanimously adopted three emergency rules, covering medical cannabis, compliance and enforcement of cannabis laws in Vermont, as well as the regulation of retail sites.
Emergency rules are effective immediately, whereas traditionally adopted rules take 15 days to come into effect.The retail site regulations will only be an emergency rule for 15 days, and then it will become standard practice.
In addition to voting on medical cannabis, the Board discussed social equity policies and background check procedures for applicants.
