Lt. Gov. John Rodgers says he’s agreed to a settlement with state regulators over a violation at his cannabis business in Glover.
State rules allow cultivators to grow plants at two different locations approved by the Cannabis Control Board.
Rodgers has two licensed parcels but was temporarily growing roughly 100 seedlings in a greenhouse on land that was not sanctioned by the state.
Rodgers says his son, who is a partner in the business, neglected to notify the CCB about the greenhouse operation.
“Sometimes you drop the ball and it’s on me,” Rodgers said in an interview. “I dropped the ball because after my son put the application in, I didn’t check to make sure.”
Rodgers says he agreed to pay a $2,500 fine. But he said he did so reluctantly, calling it “a very expensive fine for a very minor infraction that could have been dealt with in a much easier collegial way.”
The CCB says the infractions were discovered during a routine inspection and that it does not comment on ongoing cases.
