The borough solicitor and former Northampton County Bar Association president has been charged with drug possession.
A prominent Bethlehem Township-based attorney, who serves as Wilson Borough’s solicitor, is accused of bringing cocaine into juvenile court.
Stanley J. Margle III, 67, of the first block of Crest Boulevard in Palmer Township, is charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Margle on Wednesday was issued a summons, along with a fingerprint order, according to court records.
Bethlehem Township police on Feb. 13 said someone found a dark Coach-style bag left in the attorney’s waiting room at the Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center, 650 Ferry St. in Easton.
A Northampton County Sheriff’s Office deputy then opened the bag to identify its owner, police said. The deputy found two bags filled with cocaine tucked inside a cigar case made to look like a book, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Additionally, a razor blade and two makeshift straws used for snorting cocaine were allegedly found inside the bag. The bag also contained a legal pad and business cards with Margle’s identification on them, according to the affidavit that lays out evidence and witness testimony against a defendant.”
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the bag.
Video surveillance footage showed Margle allegedly entering the juvenile center with the bag about 11:40 a.m. Feb. 13. Margle then entered the waiting room with the bag at 11:56 a.m. Feb. 13, court records state.
Margle couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Thursday morning and court records did not list an attorney for him. Wilson Borough council members also didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
