MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — More than 1,000 pounds of marijuana, nearly 50 pounds of “magic mushroom” edibles and $45,000 in cash were seized during a traffic stop Monday night along Interstate 40 in Haywood County.
A Russian man driving from California was arrested and charged.
The West Tennessee Drug Task Force said agents with the 30th Judicial District interdiction unit out of Memphis pulled over a sprinter van for the improper display of registration and developed reasonable suspicion to deploy a narcotics canine around the vehicle.
During a search of the van, agents said they found over a 1/2 ton of marijuana, 46 pounds of psilocybin mushroom edibles, mainly in the form of chocolate bars, and drug proceeds in cash. West Tennessee Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter said it is one of its largest busts to date.
“Weight-wise, I believe it’s the biggest one we’ve ever had, to my knowledge. I think we’ve been in business for close to 30 years,” said Carter.
