Married couple found with 242kg of cannabis

KUALA LUMPUR: A married couple were detained when 244 blocks of processed cannabis were found in their possession during a raid by the Kuala Lumpur narcotics criminal investigation department on Wednesday.

City deputy police chief Yahaya Othman said the narcotics team uncovered 234 blocks of cannabis weighing 242kg in total, valued at RM605,000 in the couple’s apartment. Another 10 blocks were discovered in their car.

Yahaya said the man and his wife, aged 27 and 29, had been under police surveillance for the past two months.

“The suspects’ modus operandi was dealing with their customers through social media and when a deal was made, they would deliver the item to their customer by hand,” Yahaya said in a statement today.

He added that the total amount of cannabis confiscated was enough to cater to 484,120 drug addicts.

“The wife had previously run an online clothing business before changing her ‘profession’ to a drug dealer, while her husband is unemployed.”

The police, he added, were investigating the suspects’ source of supply.

“We believe the drugs were smuggled in from a northern state,” Yahaya said.

The couple are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
