Two men, a father and son, were arrested on Friday in Shingletown for marijuana cultivation, illegal possession of firearms and body armor and endangering children.
Investigators with Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) served a search warrant at a home in the 7500 block of Fisher Lane for an investigation into an illegal marijuana cultivation site.
When deputies arrived James Edward Toney Jr., 34, and James Edward Toney Sr., 61, were detained without incident and Toney Jr.’s children, ages 10 and 13, were taken into protective custody.
After interviews and observations made on scene, 1,324 marijuana plants were found in four greenhouses and Toney Sr.’s garage. K-9 unit, Toni, found a concealed 9mm handgun inside a sectional couch inside Toney Sr.’s home.
After a search of Toney Jr.’s home, 938 marijuana plants, 121.56 pounds of processed marijuana, two loaded handguns, one in a nightstand and the other under a mattress, a bolt-action rifle in a closet, body armor and ammunition were found.
488 of the marijuana plants and all of Toney Jr.’s firearms were all accessible to his two children who lived in the home.
Toney Jr., a felon, was arrested on multiple charges including allowing conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death to a child, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of marijuana for sales, cultivation of more than six marijuana plants and negligent storage of a firearm.
Toney Sr. was also arrested on multiple charges including conspiracy to commit a felony, cultivation of more than six marijuana plants and possession of marijuana for sales.
