Dublin Airport: Cannabis worth six figure sum seized by Revenue officials

The cannabis was discovered concealed in a parcel labelled as “textiles”

Cannabis worth €112,000 was confiscated with help of detector dog Enzo at Dublin Airport yesterday.

Revenue officers examining air cargo consignments seized 5.6 kilograms of herbal cannabis.

The cannabis was discovered concealed in a parcel labelled as “textiles” that had originated in Spain and was destined for an address in Dublin.

Separately yesterday, at Dublin District Court, Revenue officers were granted a three-month cash detention order by Judge Bryan Smyth.

This followed the seizure of €84,800 at Dublin Airport on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

Revenue officers stopped and searched a passenger prior to boarding a flight to Istanbul, Turkey as a part of routine profiling,

The cash is suspected to be linked or intended for use in criminal activity.

It is currently detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation.

A spokesperson from Revenue said: “These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the importation of drugs.
