Medical Cannabis Patient Approvals In Australia Drop By 1/3rd In April

Cannabiz Australia reports that patient numbers as recorded by the TGA rocketing in the first quarter of 2021 is looking increasingly like a furphy.

Now it appears like some Australian medical cannabis stocks may have done well out of a promise of  patient number rises that weren’t in fact…… fact

The number of medicinal cannabis prescriptions approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in April has dropped to 6,682 from March’s record high of 9,959.

The TGA has now approved more than 116,000 SAS-B applications for unapproved medicinal cannabis products up to April 30, 2021.

One theory advanced for the high numbers in February and March was that Australia’s flower shortage meant doctors were seeking reapprovals for the same patient after their first choice product could not be sourced.

There were 279 Authorised Prescribers as at April 30, 2021, up from 215 in February
