30-year-old suspect is being held in police custody, awaiting an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s office

Rabat – Moroccan security services aborted an international drug trafficking operation in the early hours of Monday seizing one tonne of cannabis near the southeastern city of Errachidia, a statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said.

DGSN indicated that the operation took place in collaboration between the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and the police station of Goulmima, a town located 60 kilometers south of Errachidia.

The statement added that the drug bust occurred in the Village of Gheris El Ouloui, located around seven kilometers from the town Er-Rich.

The seized drugs were in the possession of a 30-year-old man, who was driving a commercial vehicle with a forged number plate.

The suspect was caught red-handed in possession of 40 packages containing cannabis, in addition to six other forged number plates, added the statement.

Police also seized a sum of money, which is thought to be from drug trafficking activities. The detainee is also suspected of being involved with a criminal network active in trafficking drugs and psychotropic substances.
