USDA approves Alaska hemp plan

U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved Alaska’s hemp plan, opening up opportunities for broader interstate commerce of Alaska-grown and manufactured hemp products, state farming officials said. The Alaska Division of Agriculture said the state’s abundance of clean air, water and soil give its growers and producers an edge in the market for sustainable, organic hemp products. A few Alaskan farmers had been growing hemp under the pilot program of the 2014 Farm Bill before the 2018 Farm Bill established hemp as a legal crop federally, and set guidelines for individual state plans to follow.
