Nigeria: Customs Intercepts Donkey Meat, Indian Hemp Worth N94m In Kebbi

The Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi state has Intercepted 1080 sacks of donkey meat, 371 parcel of Indian hemp and other items worth ninety four million at Kawara water -side in Suru local government area of the state.

The area controller,  Dr Ben Oramalugo who briefed Journalists yesterday at the command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi recalled that ten years ago during the last briefing,  the command vowed that henceforth,  there was no breathing space for smugglers in Kebbi state particularly,  those who smuggle drugs and other items that are injurious to health and the nation’s economy.

He said,  command however directed its men to intensify surveillance in all nooks and crannies of the state and with help of the intelligence reports was able to seize donkey meat,  Indian hemp and other items worth N94 million.

The items according to him,  include; 371 parcel of Indian hemp,  1080 of donkey meat,  98 package of diazepam,  300 litres of PMS, 37 bags of foreign rice, 16 bags second hand clothing and I used  Toyota corolla car which put their duty paid value at N94 million.

While handing over the items to the officials of the state National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) the controller said,  the handing over is to foster interagency collaboration between the Customs and NDLEA in line with policy thoughts of new acting controller general of Customs,  Bashir Adeniyi Adewale.

Dr Oramalugo called on the people in Kebbi state to give the customs command all support it needed in order to fish out smugglers and other criminals in the state.
