One of the cases involved two Belgian families who were arrested with their eight children at the border crossing of Ceuta, on the Strait of Gibraltar.
Rabat – Belgian nationals of Moroccan descent were arrested on Tuesday at the border between Morocco and Spain with dozens of kilograms of hashish drug hidden in their car, which was registered in Belgium.
Police found 65 kilograms of hashish in packets scattered among the family’s luggage, local reports indicated.
In a period of two weeks’ time, there were four arrests of Belgian families attempting to smuggle hashish drugs.
One of the cases involved two Belgian families who were arrested with their eight children at the border crossing of Ceuta, on the Strait of Gibraltar. The suspects were in possession of 200 kilograms of hashish.
On August 20, when a group of vehicles waited in line to board a ship bound for Algeciras in Ceuta, the border guards suspected a car with a Belgian license plate.
The car carrying a 39-year-old Moroccan man with a Belgian work and residency visa was stopped by the sniffer dog. He was traveling with four kids and a 29-year-old Belgian woman.
At least 115 kilograms of hashish were found stashed in double bottoms throughout the car when it was examined.
A little over an hour later, the same authorities detained a 48-year-old Moroccan male and a 41-year-old Moroccan woman who both had Belgian work and residency cards.
Both were detained when the authorities found 87 kilograms of drugs concealed in similar locations in their car. There were also four kids in the car.
