NSW man accused of burying $1.5m worth of cocaine near Darwin CBD to face Supreme Court

The ABC Australia reports…

A New South Wales man who allegedly buried $1.5 million worth of cocaine in an underground barrel near the Darwin CBD, while being watched by police, will face trial in the Supreme Court.

Prosecutors will allege that in a joint operation between Northern Territory and New South Wales detectives, officers observed Cy Morris bury an empty drum in bushland on the Esplanade near Darwin city on May 3.

Police then watched the 41-year-old return to the site the next day, where it’s alleged he deposited 3 kilograms of cocaine worth $1.5 million, as well as more than $150,000 in cash.

NT Police had been monitoring Mr Morris’s movements since receiving a tip-off from their NSW counterparts in April.

NT Police said they went back to the scene to retrieve the drum of stashed drugs and money, and arrested Mr Morris the next day.
