One was arrested after Customs seized about 8 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds at Hong Kong International Airport on Saturday (Feb 17).
The 18-year-old male suspect arrived from Bangkok, Thailand and officers found two bags of suspected cannabis buds found – with an estimated value of HK$1.6 million – inside his suitcase during Customs clearance.
The arrestee has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case will be brought up at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on Monday (Feb 19).
Customs said it will continue to apply a risk assessment approach and focus on selecting visitors to Hong Kong from high-risk regions for clearance to combat transnational drug trafficking activities.
