Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, has issued a strong message to any foreign investor who wants to grow cannabis in Cambodia. – Go Away!

Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, has issued a strong message to any foreign investor who wants to grow marijuana in Cambodia.

The PM made his remarks on the occasion of closing the meeting to summarize the work results of 2023 and the direction of 2024 of the National Authority for Combating Drugs and disseminating the 9th plan to fight against illegal drugs on Tuesday afternoon, February 20, 2024.

The PM said that recently a few people have applied for investment permits to grow marijuana in Cambodia to serve the health sector, as has happened in Cambodia’s neighbour Thailand.

The PM stated “For me, I say that as long as Hun Manet is still the Prime Minister, I do not agree with this ([Thai]law. For management, ask if you can manage? I once saw that in the United States, a superpower bigger than ours, some states give them the right to plant but can not control because of two problems. The first is not controlling the use, the second is stealing more than the license.”

In addition, he stressed that, according to information on drug use in Singapore, more than 40% of users under the age of 18, and 50% of drug addicts started their addiction to drugs using marijuana.

The PM continued: “For Cambodia, I say it does not matter! It is not profitable to invest hundreds of thousands, tens of thousands of hectares in marijuana cultivation to supply Canadian pharmaceutical companies.

So, in conclusion, I would like to send a message that most of you who want to invest from abroad who want to invest in growing marijuana in Cambodia, please do not spend time flying to Cambodia, it is useless to provide information.”

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei also announced to take strong action against the Armed Forces, the army and the National Police, by expelling them if they are found to be involved in drugs.

A number of military and national police forces were expelled after being found to be involved in drugs.
