India: Lucknow: 60-year-old fake ‘sage’ held for selling drugs

60-year-old man, who called himself a sage, was arrested by Lucknow Police on Thursday after six kilograms of marijuana was recovered from his possession in Krishna Nagar.

According to a report published by the Hindustan Times, the accused, identified as Ghan Shyam Shukla, was part of a gang that supplied drugs in the city.

“He used to be in a sage’s garb and moved around the city in cabs. Shukla had only recently returned from his native district after collecting marijuana consignment from drug peddlers active on the India-Nepal border,” a press note issued by the Lucknow Police stated.

Shukla’s accomplice, Awadesh Mishra alias Sonu, was absconding and the two together used to hire cabs and move around the city to deliver marijuana consignment to customers, the press note further read.

The duo used to sell drugs through trusted customers.

An investigation is underway and efforts are being made to arrest Sonu.
