A large commercial quantity of cannabis was seized at Bowmans yesterday.

About 1.30pm Tuesday 19 March following an investigation, officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch attended a property on Olive Road to conduct a search.

At the address police located approximately 400 cannabis plants growing outdoors.  With the assistance of STAR Group officers, two people were located at the property and placed under arrest.

A 50-year-old Mile End man and a 56-year-old Prospect man have been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of a controlled plant.  They were both bailed to appear at the Kadina Magistrates Court on 15 July.

Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson, Officer in Charge of Serious and Organised Crime Branch said “Cannabis remains the most commonly used illicit drug in Australia.  Not only is cannabis harmful to our community, but it is often used by serious and organised crime groups to fund the trafficking of other drugs and illicit commodities.  South Australia Police will be relentless in its pursuit of those who would seek to profit from such activities.”

Anyone with information about the possession, cultivation or distribution of cannabis is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on www.crimestopperssa.com or phone 1800 333 000 – you can remain anonymous.
