A 48-year-old Irishman has been arrested alongside six other people in Spain after cops busted what has been described as a “drugs supermarket”.

The Irishman was held on suspicion of drug tracking and belonging to a criminal gang after cops raided a cannabis club in Denia, Alicante on the Costa Blanca.

Officers described the premises as a veritable “supermarket for narcotics” after it was busted following an investigation that was launched in March.

Police suspected that the cannabis club, located in the middle of the town, was being used as a cover for selling illicit drugs, including marijuana and hashish, to members of the public,

An undercover surveillance operation soon revealed that the club was catering to far more customers than its 86 registered members.

According to Murcia Today, police suspected staff were selling drugs that clients removed from the premises, which is illegal.

The 48-year-old Irish man and a 31-year-old Dutch woman, who were listed as president and secretary of the cannabis association, were identified as the alleged ringleaders.
