Ontario: Area man charged after mushroom dispensary raided in Alliston

One person is facing charges after police raided a business in Alliston and a residence and a storage unit in Barrie.

Nottawasaga OPP received “multiple complaints” about a mushroom dispensary on Victoria Street in Alliston, police said in a news release.

“The business is known to have been selling psilocybin (magic mushrooms), a psychedelic drug that can affect all senses and cause hallucinogenic effects. Psilocybin is illegal to possess or traffic under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.”

Police seized 3,887 grams psilocybin (valued at $33,300), about $10,000 in Canadian currency, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra valued at about $20,000 (seized as offence-related property), a quantity of Dimethyltryptamine (also known as DMT), a vacuum sealer, a scale, cellphones, packaging materials, and psilocybin advertising materials.

Colin Adkins, 28, of Barrie, was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking (psilocybin), possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking (Dimethyltryptamine), trafficking in a Schedule 3 substance (psilocybin), and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused has a July 4 court date in Bradford.
