PASSENGER ARRESTED AT LANZAROTE AIRPORT WITH FIVE BLOCKS OF HASHISH IN HIS SUITCASE

The Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency, have detained a 24-year-old man arriving at Lanzarote Airport on a flight from Málaga on suspicion of drug trafficking. The arrest occurred after five blocks of hashish were found in his suitcase.

The man had checked his case into the hold at Malaga airport, believing that if he wasn’t taking it as hand luggage, it wouldn’t be discovered. However, as part of random inspections by Customs Officers in Lanzarote, it flagged up.

During these routine checks, after people have collected their luggage, the X-ray machine detected an organic material in one of the cases that warranted further inspection. The passenger, who initially denied carrying any illegal items, was subjected to a thorough examination of his luggage.

During this, officers found five brown resinous tablets Inside a zipped compartment, which later tested positive for hashish, weighing a total of 492 grams.

The detainee is currently facing charges related to drug trafficking and offences against public health. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the smuggling network involved.
