Dominican Rep: Marijuana shipment intercepted at Puerto Plata airport

drug bust occurred at Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata, a province located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
Authorities seized a substantial amount of marijuana in an operation described in an official press release.

“Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), supported by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, confiscated 38 packages of marijuana, in an inspection operation, developed at Gregorio Luperón International Airport, province of Puerto Plata,” the release stated.

The discovery was made during routine surveillance. As the release states that “The agents and soldiers were carrying out surveillance work in one of the arrival areas, when they detected foreign substances inside a suitcase, which arrived at the terminal from Canada, immediately initiating the inspection protocol.”

Upon inspection, officials found 38 packages of marijuana, wrapped in transparent plastic covers, with a preliminary weight of 40 pounds.
