Woman in cocaine case involving child’s backpack waives preliminary hearing

The case involving a child’s backpack filled with cocaine is going to a grand jury.

An attorney for Tierra Hill gave up her right to a preliminary hearing today. Mobile County sheriff’s deputies say her 3-year-old child had a bookbag with cocaine when they raided her home in March.

Hill’s lawyer says it’s unlikely this case will be prosecuted in state court, however. Hill also is a defendant in a federal indictment alleging much of the same activity.

Hill’s co-defendants previously waived their right to a preliminary hearing, as well.
