Federal government provides information on industrial hemp imports

09/06/2024 | A minor interpellation by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group refers to announcements by Federal Minister Cem Özdemir on the cultivation of cannabis and its implementation. The federal government has now responded to the question and stated that farmers in Germany are currently not allowed to cultivate cannabis within the meaning of the KCanG (as a stimulant).

With regard to the Consumer Cannabis Science Competence Ordinance (KCanWV), the Federal Government announced that the participation of the federal states and associations in the draft of the KCanWV has been carried out and that further procedural steps will now follow the Joint Rules of Procedure of the federal ministries. An exact date for the promulgation of the ordinance cannot currently be predicted.

Furthermore, figures on industrial hemp imports in 2023 were published:

Product Weight (t) Value (EUR thousand)
Hemp seed 2.274,6 7.126
Hemp, raw or roasted 2.038,1 1.638
Hemp, processed, tow and waste 1.130,8 1.000

A total of 5,443.5 tons of hemp products worth 9,764,000 euros were thus imported into Germany in 2023. Further details can be found in the Federal Government’s response.
