Luxembourg airport sees record 508kg cocaine seizure

Luxembourg authorities have seized 508 kilograms of cocaine at the Cargo Center of Findel Airport, marking the largest air freight drug bust in the country’s history.

The haul, with an estimated street value of nearly 100 million euros, was discovered in early February in a shipment from Brazil.

Customs officers flagged the cargo – labelled as tapioca – as suspicious due to its unusual transport route. A thorough inspection revealed the drugs hidden within 3.6 tonnes of food-grade starch, spread across five pallets in an attempt to evade detection.

The Grand Ducal police’s judicial service assisted customs with forensic analysis, and the public prosecutor has launched an investigation. Authorities confirm that the case is being pursued in close collaboration between customs and police.

This follows Luxembourg’s largest-ever cocaine bust, discovered weeks ago at a farm in the north of the country. Several hundred kilograms were concealed in cylinders inside a stone-crushing machine.
