Announcement: “At SSDP, we believe in the importance of psychedelic research. That’s why we’re taking the DEA to court!”

The DEA wants to add two important research chemicals—2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine (DOI) and 2,5-dimethoxy-4-chloroamphetamine (DOC)—to Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, despite decades of safe usage in labs and no history of abuse. DOI and DOC’s current status as unscheduled compounds has made them de facto tools for researchers studying serotonin receptors. They have featured in more than 900 research articles and show promise for pain management, combatting anxiety and depression, preventing overdose, and more.

Scheduling DOI and DOC would create serious impediments to potentially life-saving research, and yet SSDP is the only drug policy organization currently fighting to keep DOI and DOC off the Controlled Substances Act.

Our historic 10-day public hearing at the DEA Administrative Court begins Tuesday, November 12th in Arlington, Virginia.

Join SSDP in the Washington D.C. area or online to kick off this unprecedented opportunity to defend the future of scientific freedom and public health with virtual and in person events.

Help SSDP kick off our unprecedented ten day public hearing in the DEA Administrative Court—and toast to our success—over happy hour on Monday, November 11 from 5:00 -7:00 PM ET at The Passenger, located at 1539 7th St NW, Washington D.C., DC 20001.  This event is free to attend with a cash bar.

SSDP will continue our multi-year effort to prevent the DEA from effectively blocking crucial medical research in an unprecedented ten-day long public hearing that will take place November 12 through 25 at the DEA Headquarters.

The DEA tried to silence scientists and exclude key testimony from our upcoming hearing addressing the agency’s long-running bid to effectively ban DOI & DOC, two psychedelic research substances, but SSDP would not back down.

Now, not only will some of the world’s leading experts in neuroscience and pharmacology be able to present evidence on the scientific and medical value of the research chemicals, but, for perhaps the first time in CSA history, the significant harm scheduling will pose to the continuation of ongoing public health research will be given serious consideration.

Join us on Tuesday, November 12 at 8:00 AM ET in front of the DEA Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia at the corner of Army Navy Drive and Hayes Street. Attire is court formal. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
