Australia – Brisbane: Twelve arrested in one night during crackdown on alleged social media drug dealers

Police used a social media platform to arrest 12 people overnight for their alleged involvement in online drug deals.

Twelve people will face court – for a total of 71 charges – after allegedly selling drugs online in Brisbane.

Detectives from the Logan Major organised crime squad infiltrated social media platform MeWe, posing as customers looking to purchase illicit drugs.

Officers have purchased various quantities of drugs, including LSD, magic mushrooms and sweets infused with THC since the beginning of the year.

“It’s quite surprising … some of the content is clearly drug sales,” organised crime gangs group commander Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith told reporters on Friday afternoon.

“They are nominating the drugs by name, quantity, prices, when it‘s available, they are offering delivery services … they are clearly running a business.”
