Australia: Five charged over alleged involvement in drug (Cannabis) syndicate operating in Sydney CBD

Sydney City detectives have charged five people following an investigation into an alleged drug syndicate operating in the Sydney CBD.

 

In late March 2024, Sydney City Detectives commenced an investigation into an alleged drug syndicate operating in the Haymarket area.

 

Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a unit on Harbour Street, Haymarket, about 8.20am yesterday (Wednesday 3 April 2024).

 

During the search, police allegedly located and seized a total of 1.8kg of cannabis in leaf, oil, and edibles, along with $10,000 AUD cash.

 

Four men – aged 35, 32, 26, 24 – and a 24-year-old woman were arrested at the location and taken to Day Street Police Station.

 

During this time, a second search warrant was executed a property on Powell Street, Homebush, where police allegedly located and seized 40 bricks of heroin weighing approximately 15 kilograms, $5360 cash, and other items.

 

The 26-year-old man was charged with supply large commercial drug, deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100000 and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

 

The three other men were each charged with supply cannabis more than indictable & less than commercial quantity, deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100000, owner/occupier knowingly allow use as drug premises, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

 

All four men were refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on today (Thursday 4 April 2024).

 

The woman was charged with found on/entering/leaving drug premise and granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 24 April 2024.
