Australia: Hunter hydro house raid ends in $1m cannabis seizure

A police raid on a hydroponic house in Muswellbrook this week has resulted in the seizure of cannabis valued at $1 million.

Officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District began an investigation into the alleged cultivation of illegal drugs after information was provided to them in March.

Following inquiries, they executed a search warrant on a home in Madringa Avenue about 10am on Wednesday 15 May.

Police discovered a sophisticated enhanced hydroponic set up inside the premises incorporating artificial lighting and watering systems.

A total of 188 plants were identified within the house, along with 18.4kg of dried cannabis in vacuum-sealed bags.

Police will allege the plants have an estimated potential street value of $550,000 while the leaf would likely net $460,000.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station.

He was charged with knowingly take part in the cultivation of cannabis and take part in the supply of cannabis.

After being refused bail, he’ll appear in Singleton Local Court on Thursday 16 May.
