The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is considering the addition of a cannabis division.
The chamber, which is the island’s largest trade organisation, has 500 members, representing virtually every industry sector.
Members have been contacted to determine the level of interest in such a division.
The organisation said: “The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is at the forefront of exploring innovative and dynamic sectors that offer growth and development opportunities for our members.
“In line with this, we have been presented with an exciting proposition: the establishment of a division focused exclusively on the burgeoning cannabis industry.”
The chamber added: “We are gauging our members’ interest and involvement in this industry.
“Whether you are currently engaged in cannabis-related activities, either directly as a business or indirectly as a social partner, or if you foresee potential benefits in a division dedicated to navigating and maximising the opportunities within the cannabis sector, we want to hear from you.”
The chamber asked members interested in being a part of a cannabis division to provide their details.
It told members: “Your participation and feedback are crucial steps in evaluating the potential for a cannabis division.
“Together, we can explore new horizons and forge paths in emerging industries.”
The e-mail was sent to members April 5.
On the same day, Uplift, a business that sells cannabidiol and hemp-derived products called on customers to “shop while supplies last” after it announced online the anticipated closure of two outlets owing to Customs guidance.
Uplift, which has locations on Burnaby Street and Front Street, said in a post on Instagram that it had no choice other than to shut down its operations until the matter was resolved.
Since then, the situation has become even less clear as questions over the importation of THC products remain unanswered after guidance posted on the government website was taken down last Monday afternoon.
No further guidance has been offered by the Government since then.
In the meantime, Uplift continues to operate.
