TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands, CMC – The British Virgin Islands’ Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) reported a significant cocaine seizure just off the coast of the community of Hodges Creek, late Tuesday.
While the exact quantity of cocaine seized has not been disclosed, authorities said it was the largest maritime drug bust in the history of the British overseas territory.
The seizure took place during a coordinated operation between the RVIPF and United States Customs Border Control when they intercepted a high-speed vessel in the area.
“During the operation, officers discovered 60 bales of cocaine and various other belongings on the intercepted vessel. The occupants abandoned the vessel at Hodges Creek Marina and escaped on foot, and despite an extensive search in the area, they remain at large,” the police said.
The vessel involved in the smuggling attempt is now in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
“The successful interception underscores our unwavering commitment to eradicating illicit activities in the region,” said Commissioner of Police Mark Collins.
