Business is steady and there have been no signs of police at an illegal magic mushroom store that opened in downtown London two weeks ago, a spokesperson for the business says.
And a lawyer who focuses on cannabis and psychedelics predicts police will follow a strategy similar to the approach to black market pot shops before licensed retail stores began opening in 2019.
Fun Guyz is a chain of magic mushroom dispensaries with locations across southern Ontario. It opened its first Southwestern Ontario location at 256 Richmond St. on May 12.
Around 100 customers pass through the doors daily, an employee who identified himself as James said, adding most of those customers learned about the business through the media or word-of-mouth.
Both James and a fellow employee acknowledged a police crackdown is possible – police have raided illegal mushroom shops in other cities, including Fun Guyz locations, and charged workers – but they said it’s not a concern for them.
