The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) issued a mandatory recall notice dated July 29 for wholesale flower sold by cultivator Green Medicine NJ and resold at dispensaries under the tradename Green Joy. The products were recalled after an investigation by the CRC found that 12 of 15 cannabis samples tested from a single dispensary contained insects and one package “contained what appeared to be human hair,” according to the CRC.
The CRC’s mandatory recall notice stated that Green Medicine was found to have been in violation of New Jersey Administrative Code 17:30-16.1 (b), which states:
“A cannabis cultivator or cannabis manufacturer shall process unusable or usable cannabis or manufacture cannabis products in a safe and sanitary manner to protect consumers from adulterated cannabis items, which shall be:
- For usable cannabis, well cured, and free of seeds and stems;
- Free of dirt, sand, debris, and other foreign matter; and
- Free of mold, rot, or other fungus or bacterial diseases.”
The investigation was initiated after a complaint was filed with the NJ-CRC on July 18, alleging that unsanitary products were cultivated and sold by Green Medicine. “Random sampling and testing at cultivation and wholesale facilities associated with Green Medicine is ongoing,” according to the CRC recall notice. “Green Medicine has been ordered to immediately recall the affected flower and notify the public according to its Standard Operating Procedures on file with the NJ-CRC.”
