A couple of pieces of information crossed my desktop this morning about Canopy that smacks of the worst of the processed “food” industry sales and marketing strategy.
The prior “Chief Growth Officer” is out and it looks like the current company policy is sell it strong and lots of it.
Is it patient demand or is it copying learned knowledge from the black market and the processed food market, sell it stronger and they’ll want more of it .
Firstly, this press release – which says and i quote from the press release
This expanded launch of the brand in Germany will provide medical patients access to Jack Herer, a new sativa-dominant strain; Balanced Caramel and Wappa, two indica-prominent strains; and Gelato 33, a balanced hybrid strain – helping meet the growing demand from patients for higher-THC genetics.. / …This builds on Tweed’s initial introduction of Glitter Bomb, an indica dominant high THC strain.
Canopy Growth is expanding its German product lineup with the launch of the Tweed brand as well as new genetics to meet the growing needs of patients and healthcare practitioners,” ….. said Luc Mongeau, CEO, Canopy Growth
Am I reading this correctly but the stated aim of the company is to sell as high THC products as you can into the German market?
There’s a new boss at Canopy, Luc Mongeau, he only started in January.

First i checked out Glitter Bomb
Where we learn the following, do those percentages really help the growing needs of patients and healthcare practitioners . I’ll let you decide,
Glitter Bomb strain helps with

24% of people say it helps with Anxiety
-

How medical is medical would be an open question here?
In itself all the above is fine, sort of.
It’s an open secret in jurisdictions around the world that until there is regulation for adult use we’ll just use language to say it’s medical.
Practitioners are in the main clueless but they can earn good money prescribing weed, regulators are either clueless or have a number of pressures to make sure supply is maintained so if the product is what it says it is and doesn’t poison people let’s just approve in an unnapproved sort of way. As for the legislators don’t even start me on them
As above I’ll let you, dear reader, form your own opinion. I know what I think and Luc Mongeau knows what he thinks.
But I’m not sure i want to buy cannabis from somebody who says they sell Snack Food & Confections; Sugar Candy; Chocolate; Pet Food & Supplies; Cleaning Products & Detergent; etc

Over at Linked In the ever vigilant Rob McPherson has spotted the following (27 Feb 2025)
I guess maybe, if you have no growth, you don’t need a Chief Growth Officer…
…because, it would appear that the incredible shrinking c-suite just got smaller.
Canopy (Negative) Growth is now down to 5.
Tara Rozalowsky seems to be gone – no press release that I can see. And no one heading up Marketing – championing the consumer, leading the brands.
