We have highlighted in red a couple of areas where her just talks utter nonsense without any basis in fact. The Canadian statements beggars belief.

Co-director of health and policy at the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre, Professor Ian Hickie, has revealed why Australia is extremely unlikely to join countries across the world and legalise Marijuana.

Mr Hickie said the increased potency of the product is just one of the reasons he did not believe Australia would legalise recreational use of the substance, pointing to the fact cannabis was 5-10 times stronger in 2024 than in the 1980s.

“That’s one of the issues out there about cannabis use at the moment, stronger doses…younger people using more and being exposed to more than ever,” he said on Thursday.

“In Canada where cannabis has been legalised this is a huge problem”.

The professor highlighted the increased exposure was a “major issue” for young people’s mental health as concerns over cannabis-induced psychosis, or schizophrenia, continued to grow.

Cannabis is involved in approximately 50 per cent of psychosis, schizophrenia, and schizophreniform psychosis cases, especially in young men.

“There is 30 years of research now, well established – that cannabis is a major risk factor to psychotic episodes,” Mr Hickie said.

A common theory floated is that governments are inclined to legalise cannabis so they can gain tax revenue.

Mr Hickie argued legalising marijuana based on this expectation would be a “really bad idea” as the benefits had not been demonstrated in countries like Canada where the illegal market continues, alongside the legal market.

“Consumption goes up and the number of young people who suffer the consequences goes up,” he said.

“I think in Australia there is a really big difference between legalisation, which I think will not happen here,  versus decriminalisation – not having the police running around hassling people about small amounts of cannabis use.

“I think it’s very unlikely that any of our states and territories will actually go the whole hog to legalisation.

“The health outcomes would be bad and the projected tax revenues are unlikely to result despite a lot of the hype about that.”

Read more of this if you must but all he need do is a quick search on this here site to look at some of the recent Canadian figures showing the opposite of what he purports. How he has a job at the brain and mind centre is beyond me because it’s clear he isn’t using his own to do any exhaustive research
