The council’s first vote Tuesday established zoning limits for the natural healing centers that will provide psilocybin, also known as “magic mushrooms,” to patients staying on site to address mental health issues including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
In 2022 Colorado voters passed Amendment 122 to decriminalize some psychedelic substances and begin allowing them to be used at “natural healing” treatment centers. The state will begin approving licenses for healing centers that provide the mushroom and facilitators who work at the healing centers next year. Cities cannot ban the centers completely but are allowed to place stricter limits on their locations than the minimum state standards.
