Courses NY:  Cannabis Product Safety and Responsibility/ Cannabis Workforce Responsibility:

Good afternoon,

New York State’s adult-use cannabis industry continues to grow rapidly, creating new opportunities and responsibilities for businesses and workers across the state. To uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance, cannabis employees must be properly trained and informed.

To support this effort, the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), in partnership with the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL), has launched two new online training courses as part of the Responsible Workforce Training (RWT) program. These no-cost courses are designed to safeguard health, promote workplace safety, and support compliance with New York’s adult-use cannabis regulations (§ 125.5).

The following training courses are now available:

  •  Cannabis Product Safety and Responsibility: Developed by OCM, this course focuses on protecting health and safety in the regulated cannabis industry. It includes essential information on cannabis product safety, consumer protection, and state regulations that impact daily cannabis operations.
  •  Cannabis Workforce Responsibility: Developed by NYSDOL, this course highlights labor standards, worker rights, and workplace health and safety.

Under state regulations, all individuals employed by a licensed cannabis business must complete both training courses within 30 days of their start date. Current employees must complete the training no later than May 3, 2025.

For questions related to the training or cannabis compliance, contact the Office at compliance@ocm.ny.gov.

For questions regarding labor standards, contact NYSDOL at LSAsk@labor.ny.gov or call 1-888-52-LABOR.

Thank you for supporting a safe, informed, and compliant #NYcannabis workforce.

Thank you,
NYS Office of Cannabis Management
