The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is responsible for protecting Michigan’s environment and public health by ensuring existing rules and regulations are followed. Since recreational marijuana has been legalized in Michigan, EGLE staff have observed high levels of noncompliance with environmental regulations throughout this developing industry. Many activities such as wastewater discharges, wetlands, waste disposal, composting, and even air pollution, are regulated by EGLE. To be considered compliant and to avoid enforcement, not only do these activities need to meet certain standards, they might also require permits of operation, certifications, and records submittals. In this session, EGLE staff will walk through the regulatory requirements and permitting process and provide resources which can be used to ensure compliance.
The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session which will allow the attendees to ask questions that may be answered in real-time.
