Crains Trashes Green Market Report & Incorporates Cannabis Into General Reporting
Sad day as GMR is/was by far the best business reporting on the US market by a country mile. Schroyer’s writing especially.
If Crain’s don’t keep him they are slightly mad .
I sensed that this was coming in Jan Feb when Crain’s had founder Borchadt on Linked in pushing the publication, I presume as part of a subscriber drive.
I’m guessing that Crain’s thought they were onto a winner as cannabis grew inexorably throughout the states but what they failed to grasp is that MSO’s will pay 10’s of millions of dollars to influence legislatures through mainstream media but there’s no desire by them to support a independent cannabis press of any ilk that might highlight the multitude of sins that they already commit and intend to commit in the future and sadly the other end of the market has little money to spend on media.
I know this too well having operated as a free access independent for over a decade.
Nobody in “industry”, you know the type, the ones that swan around conferences, are always on their phones doing “important” calls, re-structuring companies to the benefit of their own paypacket, exactly the sort of people that GMR was succesfully starting to highlight aren’t going in any manner going to support constructive criticism for an independent media.
This is the one of the many cancers of American life at the moment.
GMR will be remembered here.
This turned up on Linked In but as yet nothing on the GMR site, of course Crains are trying to grab all the subscription $’s and provide are more limited coverage. My guess is that they’ll keep on a couple of writers and force them to write less cannabis and more general business reporting and then dump them quietly around Christmas.
