According to the Shelton Police Department, the inspections were conducted by the local detective agency along with the state Department of Consumer Protection, the Department of Revenue and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
The six stores inspected included Smoke City, located at 719 Bridgeport Ave.; Nick’s Convenience, 609 Howe Ave.; Shelton Smoker, 500 Howe Ave.; 420 Smoke Shop, 420 Howe Ave.; Smoke World, 350 Bridgeport Ave.; and Breeze 2 Smoke Shop, 874 Bridgeport Ave.
Shelton police said minors were sent to smoke shops before the checks and in each case were able to purchase tobacco or e-cigarettes without presenting ID.
