Dog was ‘unwitting accomplice’ in £800,000 cocaine trafficking plot

A dog has been rescued after a criminal used her to smuggle 10kg of cocaine into the UK.

Camilla was an “unwitting accomplice” in an attempt to traffic £800,000 worth of class A substances into the UK. The dog was taken from her owner and left in a kennel while officials attempted to rehome the animal.

The two-year-old pooch was brought to the UK by Mexican national Jorge Pablo Samano Galas, 43, back in May before he was arrested upon arrival in Heathrow. He was recently jailed for six years and four months following a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.

On arrival at Heathrow, Animal Aircare Reception Centre staff carried out standard welfare checks on the dog, and noticed Camila’s crate felt heavy and out-of-place.
