Dominican Republic – Santo Domingo: 300+ cocaine packages found in Belgium-bound tanks

Authorities in Santo Domingo intercepted a large shipment of cocaine at the Port of Caucedo in Boca Chica this week.

A joint operation, conducted by anti-narcotics agents and military personnel, resulted in the seizure of 371 packages of presumed cocaine, weighing a total of 387.51 kilograms.

According to the National Directorate of Drug Control “Anti-narcotics agents and military personnel, after receiving intelligence reports, left a large profiling and inspection device on dozens of containers for export, which according to the manifesto would be shipped to Belgium, from the Capaucedo terminal.”

After hours of searching, agents opened a suspicious container housing 64 metal tanks ostensibly filled with honey. Inconsistencies in the structure of some tanks prompted a closer examination.

Using forklifts, polishing tools, drills, and a spill containment pond, support teams discovered hidden compartments in 19 of the tanks.

The National Directorate of Drug Control reported that these false bottoms concealed the 371 packages of the illicit substance.
