Drugs courier jailed for ferrying cannabis from England to Dundee

A drugs courier who was paid £500 a trip to transport boxes of cannabis from England to Dundee has been jailed for 18 months.

Lukas Losinski, 35, was caught with 974g of cannabis with a potential street value of £78,110 when police searched his home.

He was sentenced at Dundee Sheriff Court after admitting being concerned in the supply of drugs, namely cannabis, over a three-month period between October 2022 and January 2023.

He will now be subject to confiscation action under proceeds of crime legislation to recover monies gained from his illegal conduct.

The court heard how Losinski met a man called Damian in a Dundee nightclub in October 2022 and was offered a job as a courier.

He was told he would be paid £500 in cash each time he was asked to drive to locations in Lancashire and collect unknown items and transport them back to his home in Dundee.

Since October 2022, he had undertaken five such journeys after receiving text messages from, ‘Damian’, who told him to store them in his home until arrangements were made to collect the drugs.

A police search of Losinki’s house in January 2023 revealed eight vacuum-sealed bags containing cannabis hidden inside a holdall with a potential street value of £78,110.

Helen Nisbet, procurator fiscal for Tayside, Central and Fife, said: “This was a coordinated effort to bring significant quantities of illegal drugs to Scotland. Lukas Losinski’s criminal wrongdoing was detected as a result of an extensive police operation, working with COPFS, to disrupt a network of drug supply.

“We are now taking steps to recover the monies he made from his criminal conduct.”
