As reported by Merkur, this action could be interpreted as an indirect allusion to the current cannabis debate in Bavaria. Markus Söder, the Bavarian Minister President, had previously announced that the new cannabis laws in Bavaria would be implemented as restrictively as possible.
Professional footballers are not allowed to use cannabis without restrictions. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) doping list with a limit of 150 nanograms per milliliter of urine. Cannabidiol (CBD), on the other hand, is not prohibited and could even be beneficial for athletes due to its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.
