Germany: Trial against operator of Trier cannabis vending machine discontinued

2025-03-19 | The Trier Regional Court has dropped the case against two men for commercial and illegal trafficking in narcotics. The decisive factors were the change in the legal situation, the long duration of the proceedings and the insolvency of the defendants, reports SWR.

The co-defendant was completely exonerated, while the main defendant had to complete 100 hours of community service. Both had relied on manufacturer certificates that ruled out the intoxicating effect of their products. The charges were based on sales between 2018 and 2019, including via a nationwide first cannabis vending machine. Despite the change in the law, cannabis trafficking remains a criminal offense.
