Sunday, March 24, 2024, the Public Ministry of Honduras announced that the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime and the Technical Criminal Investigation Agency had intercepted three vessels which were loading bales of cocaine. The interception occurred northwest of Bobbell Cay in a sector known as Media Luna Reef, which falls under the jurisdiction of the insular department of the Bay Islands.
Authorities reported that when intercepted, one or more medium-sized vessels were transferring several red bags to a smaller vessel. The authorities believe that the bags of cocaine originated from Colombia.
Authorities also confirmed that the registration information of the vessels was for “U-1808491 and Sea Lean II.”
So far, at least 10 Hondurans are suspected of being involved.
Authorities described the interception of the cocaine shipment as a “blow to the criminal structures dedicated to drug trafficking.”
