India Duh! Bengaluru couple arrested for ganja cultivation after posting balcony garden’s video on Facebook

A couple in Bengaluru were arrested for allegedly growing ganja in flower pots after they posted videos of their balcony garden on Facebook.

Sagar Gurung, 37, and his wife Urmila Kumari, 38, hail from Namchi in Sikkim, and have been living in M S R Nagar, Sadashivanagar, for the past two years. Sagar runs an eatery, while Urmila, a homemaker, recently became active on social media. On October 18, she shared a video showing nearly two dozen plants in their garden, unknowingly revealing the two ganja saplings.

On November 5, the police raided their house, alerted by social media discussions. Initially, the couple did not respond to questions regarding the saplings. Upon inspection, officers discovered that two pots had been emptied, indicating that the plants had been removed hastily.

After further questioning, the couple confessed to growing ganja and directed the police to the dustbin where they had discarded the plants. A police officer reported that there were 17 pots in total, with two containing cannabis. The total amount of substance seized was 54 grams.

The police suspected that the couple attempted to destroy evidence when they noticed officers at their door. They said the couple may have been cultivating ganja for commercial purposes.
