India: Hyderabad: Two held for possessing hashish oil, marijuana

Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise department here on Saturday arrested two persons on charges of smuggling marijuana and hashish oil from Araku in Visakhapatnam and selling the same to persons known to them in the city.

The arrested persons have been identified as Harshavardhan (24) and Vijay (25). Hashish oil worth Rs.4 lakh and marijuana sachets were seized from the possession of the arrested persons, said Serlingampally excise inspector B Gandhi Naik.

He said Harshavardhan hailing from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh purchased hashish oil worth Rs.50,000 in Araku and came to the city four months ago. He was staying in a flat in Hafeezpet and was allegedly selling five grams of oil in a box at a price ranging from Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,00 depending upon the demand.

Following information that some persons were possessing narcotics, an excise team from Serilingampally raided Harshavardhan’s flat and seized 230 boxes of hashish oil.

Another excise team, which was conducting surprise checks at Allwyn crossroads, detained Vijay and seized marijuana from his possession. Officials said the two arrested persons were procured before the court which later remanded them to judicial custody.
