International, federal assets seize six tons of cocaine worth hundreds of millions in Caribbean

Following nine different interdictions by U.S., Netherlands and British forces in the Caribbean Sea, over 12,100 pounds of cocaine worth more than $160 million was seized.

The illegal drugs were offloaded in Miami by the crew of U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter Confidence, who were assisted in the seizures and interdictions by USCG Cutter Valiant, USCG Tactical Law Enforcement Team — Pacific, Royal Netherlands Navy Ship HNLMS Groningen, Royal British Navy Ship HMS Dauntless, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, and the Joint Interagency Task Force South.

In addition to the thousands of pounds of cocaine, 17 suspected smugglers were apprehended and now face federal prosecution, a news release said.
