Intoxicated driver jailed after police find psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana: cops

A 60-year-old man was caught driving while intoxicated in Joliet and carrying marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms in his vehicle, police said.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, an officer on patrol attempted to pull over a vehicle after it ran a traffic light, police said.

The vehicle was traveling south on Raynor Avenue at West Jefferson Street when it ran the red light, then made a U-turn and headed north on Raynor, police said.

The driver initially refused to stop but then pulled over near Richmond and Wilcox streets, police said.

Bryan Kenney of Joliet was identified as the driver, police said.

“Kenney exhibited signs of alcohol impairment and indicated to the officer that he had been drinking,” police said.

Kenney refused to attempt field sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.

After searching Kenney’s vehicle, officers found marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms, police said.

Kenney was taken to the Joliet Police Department for booking and then transported to the Will County jail.

Kenney was arrested on probable cause of possession of a controlled substance, possession of between 30 to 100 grams of marijuana, driving under the influence, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, reckless driving and multiple traffic citations.
