Ireland: Herbal cannabis worth €400k seized in operation targeting West Dublin crime gang

A consignment of approximately 20 kilograms of herbal cannabis was discovered during the operation

Gardai seized herbal cannabis worth €400,000 yesterday in an operation targeting a West Dublin organised crime gang.

A total of 20 kilograms of the drug was discovered in a joint operation conducted by gardai and officers from the Revenue Customs Service.

It is believed the cannabis was under the control of an organised crime group based in the West Dublin area.

A garda spokesman said a number of raids were also carried out following the seizure.

He said: “As part of ongoing investigations targeting individuals suspected to be involved in an organised crime group operating in the west Dublin area, a Joint Operation was conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Clondalkin Divisional Drugs Unit and personnel attached to the Revenue Customs Service.

“During the course of this operation, a consignment of approximately 20 kilograms of Herbal Cannabis with an estimated street value of €400,000 was detected by Revenue Officers.

“A number of subsequent searches were carried out as a result of this seizure.”
